To live?

Wow look at me blogging two days in a row. KZAM.

How has your day been humans? My day was gooood. We had a guest lecture today on positive psychology by a professor from the University of Pennsylvania. And we did something called a thought experiment. Wherein, you just sit and let your mind do all the work.

He asked us to imagine, that today-now, is the last day of our lives, that’s it, everything is going to be over today. And amongst all these years, what had made your life worth living? He asked.

In that moment, the room just fell silent, all of us thinking, what made all these years worthwhile? What moment? One girl said something along the lines of being able to grow through the good and the bad times. A friend of mine spoke about the moment she visited an animal orphanage in Kenya. Another boy had something to say too, something I can’t seem to recollect.

But yes, coming back.. what made my life worth living? We were supposed to tell the person sitting next to us. The girl next to me spoke about her trip to France being a highlight of her life and I well.. hmm. I said, the people that is my friends, my family that I surround myself with-identify with- made it worth living. I couldn’t think of anything else.

At the end of the lecture, I just realised how tiny our life span is and how I am not even cherishing each day-each moment, be it good or bad. Soย  I have decided, to embrace every little thing that happens, to conquer my fears,

  1. This is a really heavy question! For me it would be that I got to help people while here. I got to be a miracle for my parents, a best friend for my sister, a light in darkness for a friend, a hero to little kids and so forth. Of all the things I’ve done in my life these things are what I think is most important so this is what has made my life worth it till now.

    1. I know right, it’s such a tough question to answer, and he gave us about three minutes, and that’s it. We had to figure it out. All these things you’ve thought of are so wonderful. I hope your list gets longer and longer as life goes on. ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Oh hi! I am from Kenya! I don’t know why it made it more appealing to me once I saw you mention this crazy country of mine. But your question… a heavy yet very important one. I believe that we cannot quantify our greatest moments because they usually happen beyond our control. But being aware of every minute of every day and just being thankful for whatever, bad or good, gives life more meaning. I think.
